Sevier, John
(23 sep. 1745, New Market, Va.–24 sep. 1815, Fort Decatur, Territorio de Mississippi).

Colono de la frontera y político estadounidense. En 1773 se trasladó a lo que es hoy la parte este de Tennessee, donde combatió en la guerra de Lord Dunmore. En la guerra de independencia de los EE.UU. colaboró en la victoria de King's Mountain (1780). Participó en un levantamiento de colonos contra Carolina del Norte, que formó el estado transitorio de Franklin (1784) y fue elegido su gobernador (1785–88). Se desempeñó en la Cámara de Representantes por Carolina del Norte (1789–91). Cuando Tennessee entró a la Unión, fue su gobernador (1796–1801, 1803–09).
